10 Steps of Korean Skin Care Routine

Korean cosmetics is gaining increasing popularity. Along with tint and BB-creams, society shows interest in multi-stage skin care. Let’s see why Koreans spend more than 10 minutes on skin care.

Most people in the world use one type of moisturizer. At the same time Korean women prefer to use from six to ten different care products daily. The order of products usage also plays a significant role. All steps are well studied and has its own purpose: preparation, treatment, hydration and protection.

The most common skin care type is a 10 steps care. However, it does not mean that every step must be applied daily, Every stage has its own purpose and you need to decide whether to apply it or not in accordance with your skin type. Let`s quickly revise the skin types and continue with the skin care stages.

Skin Types.

Normal skin.
Noticeable pores in T-zone. Rarely inflamed.

Dry skin.
The pores are not noticeable. The skin does not glisten. Tense and flaky.

Oily skin.
The skin is prone to acne. Large and deep pores. Greasy shine.

Combined skin.
Oily in T-zone, dry in other parts.

Sensitive skin.
Reacts to food or environment. The skin is prone to redness, ratch and itching.

1. Remover or Cleansing Water.

You need to know that before washing the face, you need to remove a make up. A remover can you help you to get rid of cosmetics on eyes and lips. While a cleansing water can remove other cosmetics products on your face. The best natural cleansers include cucumber juice, that have anti-inflammatory properties; coconut oil, which provides good penetration and antimicrobial properties, and baking soda plus honey, that is known as an excellent exfoliator.

2. Cleansing Cream or Hydrophilic Oil.

Oil-based cleansing is a must have step in your daily face washing routine. Because only oils penetraite into the pores and can dissolve fat and oil plugs, draw out contaminants and effectively remove tonal cream. Additionally, this product doesn`t disturbe the acid-base balance of the skin. There is no big difference between cleansing cream and hydrophylic oil. Cleansing cream is suitable for owners of dry skin due to its oily texture. While owners of oily skin prefer to use a hydrophylic oil.

3. Cleansing Gel, Cleansing Foam, Cleansing Lotion.

The second stage of double cleansing is a water-based cleanser. This stage is designed to remove oil residue and other minor contaminants, as well as sweat and dust. You should note that any foam makes your skin dry. Therefore, it is necessary to moisturize the skin as soon as possible after cleansing.

4. Peeling or Scrub.

Peeling and scrubbing play a crucial role in making your skin look flawless. The procedure exfoliates the dead cells and outermost layer, improves and smooths the texture of the skin. Moreover, being a chemical substance which has a watery gel-like consistency, it penetrates deep into the skin and let other cosmetic products act more effectively.
Peeling should be applied no more than 2 times a week.
Meanwhile, scrub offers a physical exfoliation with a grifty texture. It also can help to exfoliate the top layer of the epidermis and remove dead skin.
However, peeling or scrubbing can`t be applied more than two times a week.

5. Toner.

Toner helps to restore the acid-base balance of the skin, moisturize it and prepare skin for the next stages of skin care. Korean women invented a “rule of three seconds”.
According to this rule, your skin needs to be moisturized immediately after washing. You can apply the toner by palms spreading it with patting movements.

6. Essence, Serum or Ampules.

These products are considered as the main part of Korean skin care routine – treatment of the skin. Usually this stage has one specific aim among fight with wrinkles, whitening, regeneration and pores tightening.
Serums are oil-like consistency product that addresses to specific issues like brightening, dark spots, wrinkles, etc. When it comes to essences, they are more lightweight and less concentrated than serums, as mostly they are watered-down. Both of the products contain high concentrations of active ingredients. Finally, ampules are supercharged serums with higher concentrations of active ingredients that makes the product act more efficiently.

7. Emulsion.

The main objective of this product is to moisturize the skin and strengthen the effect of essence, serum or ampule. Emulsion is less concentrated that essence which makes it to be absorbed very well and fast.
The product is suitable for owners of ultra thin and sensitive skin that does not irritate the skin and clog your pores.

8. Eye cream.

Cosmetologists have invented an eye cream because eye area is very sensitive and needs to be moisturized more than the other parts of the skin. The cream reacts safer and more beneficial. It prevents signs of aging: sagging, puffiness, wrinkles, dark circles. In addition, the advantage of using an eye cream is that it is formulated without fragnance and other problematic ingredients.
The important rules of applying an eye cream is not to stretch the skin and not to push too hard.

9. Face cream.

The main function of the face cream is to protect the skin from the aggressive effects of the external environment and to increase the impact of the previous stages of care. Do not forget that you should select the cream depending on the type of your skin – the fatter the skin, the lighter the cream. It is best to have two creams – moisturizing and nourishing. You need to apply them depending on the season. In the warm season, it is moisturizing in the morning and nourishing in the evening; and in the cold season – in the morning nourishing and in the evening moisturizing.

10. Sun protection.

Sunscreen is the best thing to prevent premature aging. Therefore, it is better to take a two more minutes to apply it before going out. You can notice the effect of that product only in the long run period. However, sunscreen protection fails when you do not renew the layer of the cream. Thus, never forget to protect your skin from ultraviolet rays so that every above mentioned stage will act effectively.
