Yes. The Rockefeller Christmas tree is very real! In fact, it is a year long process to find this huge tree. Organizers search for the right tree all year before the final selection happens. The selected tree, usually is a Norway spruce, 69 to 100 feet (21 to 30 m) tall.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony is always the following Wednesday after the Thanksgiving Day.

This year, 2019, the city will light the Rockefeller Christmas tree for the first time on Wednesday, December 4. People will be able to enjoy live performances from 6:30-10:30 at Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th and West 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The majority of the trees that are displayed at Rockefeller Center are from the North East. Organizers bring the trees from Pennsylvania, New Jersey or Upstate New York.

Last year, our tree came from a farmhouse north of New York City, Wallkill, New York. The tree was a 75 years old “Shelby”. Beautiful 75-year-old Shelby arrived to the Big Apple three weeks before the actual lighting ceremony. The new tree’s name and origin will be announced later this year.

The Rockefeller Center Christmas tree is usually stays up from 5:30 a.m. until 11:30 p.m. and until 9 p.m. daily, except on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

However, On Christmas, the tree is lit for 24 hours and on New Year’s Eve the lights are turned off at 9 p.m.

This year, 2019, the tree at the Rockefeller Plaza will be up from December 4 till early 2020.

Although, New Yorkers start decorating their houses, storefronts and streets the day after Thanksgiving. At the end of November, you can already see and feel the Christmas spirit in the city.

Can I watch the Rockefeller Christmas tree 2019 live on TV?
