When we are in our 20s our skin is at its best moment. When we overcome that teenage acne, our skin looks smooth and hydrated even if we barely drink water or use moisturizer. The best part is that we don’t have wrinkles, but don’t get too excited. Sometimes at this age, we believe that our skin will never age and we don’t need any skincare routine at all. Also, this belief often makes us have some unhealthy habits like smoking, drinking alcohol, sleep with makeup on, and so many others that will lead to premature ageing and unhealthy skin.
The right time to start taking care of our skin is when we are in our 20s. At this age, we can prevent the fine lines, wrinkles, and reduce the ageing process. In this article, we are going to tell you the ideal skincare routine that you need to have in order to keep your skin beautiful.
You need to know your skin type (before we start)
This step is important because knowing your skin type will help you to choose the right products and come out with a routine that addresses your needs and concerns. The skin types are:
- Oily skin: If you have visible pores, your skin looks shiny, and you are prone to breakouts – this is your type. The main goal in your routine is to control oil production.
- Dry skin: If you experience tightness, your skin looks rough, and you are prone to fine lines then you have dry skin.
- Combination skin: Your skin is oily in the T-zone (forehead, nose, and chin), but feels dry in the cheeks.
- Sensitive: You can’t tolerate most of the skincare products. In addition, you suffer redness and itching regularly.
Once you know which one is your type, we are ready to go ahead with the next step:
Do the double cleanse
This beauty step comes from Korea (as we know, Korean women have flawless skin), and consist of using two products:
- Oil cleanser: Which removes makeup, and dirt. Don’t worry if you have oily skin, it is suitable for all skin types.
- Water-based cleanser: Finish the cleansing by removing the oil cleanser, thus leaving your skin feeling fresh.

These two simple steps will change your skin forever, remove the excess sebum, and the next products you apply will penetrate better.
Use sunscreen

The main reason for skin-ageing is unprotected sun exposure. So if you are not wearing sunscreen you need to start doing it right now. Unprotected sun exposure can not only cause premature ageing, but also burns, and increase the risk of skin cancer. Choose a product with an SPF higher than 30, resistant to water, and use it every day, even if it is cloudy. Remember to re-apply it every 2 hours.
Use a face tonic

This is one of the most underrated products, but it has tons of benefits. The tonic balances your skin’s pH, refreshes and moisturizes it. Choose a tonic that is alcohol-free. Also, you may want to choose tonic that comes with additional benefits like balancing oil production and reducing the hyperpigmentation. A right chosen tonic will give your skin a brightening effect and reduce redness.
Add a serum into your routine
Serums have a high concentration of active ingredients, and you can choose one according to your skin concern. Our recommendation? Try a serum of hyaluronic acid. This ingredient helps to keep your skin hydrated and is suitable for every skin type. It prevents the fine lines and wrinkles, or if you already have some it acts as a non-invasive filler.
Our second choice is vitamin C. It is a powerful antioxidant that fights against free radicals (which can cause ageing), and reduces the uneven skin tone. Just keep in mind that you have to wear sunscreen when you use it, otherwise the hyperpigmentation will get worse.
Use a good moisturizer cream
The right cream depends a lot on your skin type. If you have oily skin use a gel form, for dry skin types use an oil-based formula. Moisturizing makes sure that your skin keeps hydrated, soft, and you prevent the ageing signs.
Exfoliate

This step is so important because it helps you to remove the dead skin cells, evens the skin tone, controls the sebum production, and gives you a glowy look. Use chemical exfoliator ingredients suitable for your skin type, and don’t exfoliate more than 2 times if your skin is sensitive, and 3 times if your skin is oily.
Start using eye cream
The eye zone is one of the most delicate zones in your face. It is also the most prone to fine lines and wrinkles. Use an eye cream that contains caffeine (which improves the circulation and reduces dark circles), and nourishing ingredients like almond oil, shea butter, or avocado.
Additional tips to keep your skin healthy
Have a healthy diet
Beauty starts from the inside out. What you eat is going to reflect on your skin, thus avoid junk food, sugar, and trans-fats. Have a diet rich in fruits, veggies, and healthy fats like avocado, eggs, and nuts.
Avoid unhealthy habits
Don’t smoke or drink alcohol, both can dehydrate your skin, and lead to premature ageing.
Do exercise
Exercise isn’t only great for your overall health, but also for your skin. It improves the blood circulation, which oxygenates your skin, preventing the ageing.
Avoid stress
You have no idea how much damage the stress can do to your face, it makes you more prone to breakouts, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Never sleep with makeup
It doesn’t matter how tired you are, you always have to remove your makeup before sleeping. Not doing it will clog your pores because our skin goes through a renewal process on nights. Therefore it can cause acne, increase the exposure to free radicals, and irritate your eyes (if you sleep with eye makeup on).
Be consistent
Do your skincare routine every night and exfoliate skin at least twice a week. This is the only way to actually notice real changes in your skin.
