Let’s face it. Cellulite just isn’t one of the things we spend a whole lot of time thinking about if we think of it at all. Until we realize that we have it. Then we go into a panic and start obsessing about it. Well, it’s good to know about cellulite, especially some of the myths about cellulite and how to get rid of it. Here are some examples of the many myths about cellulite that are out there and an attempt to clear up some of this misinformation.

Cellulite is Only Excess Fat

Naturally, cellulite contains fat, but it’s actually the connective fibres between your muscle and skin that cause the lumpy, pleated effect. In reality, it is fibre strands of collagen that link skin to a muscle which are making these pockets of skin. This is normal fat that all individuals have. The reason it makes its appearance is due to certain areas that are getting pulled down.

If You Get Cellulite You Are Just Unlucky

The truth of the matter is that literally hundreds of millions of women in the United States have cellulite. The condition has nothing to do with laziness or lack of exercise. There are various causes for having cellulite and one of them could be genetic. Sometimes you are simply born predisposed to certain body conditions and this can be one of them.

About 10 percent of men also have cellulite. What makes the difference in the case of men is that their fibrous bands run parallel with the surface of the skin. While for women the bands run perpendicular, which is the reason for the dimpled appearance of skin. Basically, what it comes down to is that men’s body differs from a women’s, and the difference in the fibrous bands that protects them from cellulite.

Lose Weight to Make Cellulite Vanish

Not true. You need to build muscle as well, eat a healthy diet that’s low in sugar and processed carbohydrates, and stay well hydrated. Otherwise, instead of helping get rid of cellulite, weight loss can actually make the cellulite problem worse. You should be doing aerobic exercise plus weight training that the fibrous bands beneath the skin will get back some of the elasticity it’s lost, thus making the cellulite less visible. Here is a video I like myself and would like to share it with you.

Above all, do not use liposuction for the perfect solution. This procedure can make the appearance of cellulite even worse. This is because even if you eliminate deeper fat of the body, the top part of the fat will still remain. So it won’t help the puckering.

Only Older People Get Cellulite

It’s true that the older you get the more cellulite you have, but cellulite is a problem that can plague even young people. Everyone is subject to cellulite. There is no exception to the rule. Cellulite formation is decided by hormones, genetics, and the general composition of your body.

Women who are older do have several obstacles to overcome in regards to smooth skin. These are skin looseness, accumulated sun damage over years, loss of thickness of the skin, and a higher level of body fat.

Lotions and Creams Make Cellulite Vanish

There is an abundance of beauty product companies out there whose main goal is to make you buy natural botanical lotions and creams that “help” to get rid you of cellulite forever. Save your money because they don’t work.

There is hope, however, so don’t give up just yet. Topical products that have prescription-strength retinol in them have been proven to help, but you have to wait around 30 days to see any results.

A Suntan Will Make Cellulite Go Away

Laying out in the sun working on your tan is surely a relaxing thing to do, but it will not help you to get of cellulite. In fact, it will actually make your cellulite problem worse. Instead of helping remove cellulite UV rays make it easier to see as UV rays break down the collagen in our organism.

It may interest you to know that sunless tanning products such as creams and sprays will help to lessen the visibility of cellulite. It’s all an illusion, however, and you should be aware that the cellulite is still there. It hasn’t gone anywhere, only it is less visible.

Exercising a Certain Area Will Remove Cellulite

There are no such things as exercises that target cellulite specifically, yet toning your body can lessen the appearance of cellulite. Keep in mind, though, that your body burns fat at the same rate all over. That means that the part of the body you’re concentrating on will tone up faster, you won’t burn fat there any faster than anywhere else in your body.

If you have a problem with cellulite take heart. Scientists are slowly but steadily discovering long-term solutions for the problem. Currently, the most promising treatment is a surgery called Cellulaze. An optic laser is used to melt fat, and it is also able to destroy fibrous connective tissue, plus help cause new collagen to form. The results last for at least a year or two. This is the longest period of time that any treatment for cellulite is going to last.

What you have to guard against is allowing yourself to become so concerned about this problem which most women and even some men do. Then you are vulnerable to falling for myths about cellulite and how to get rid of cellulite. Most of these myths are just costly failures, so don’t go to extremes as some of them can harm your health. Be careful and don’t get taken in by the frauds out there. Do what’s right for yourself, and be proud of your decisions, of course, but don’t let a desire for perfection cause to make a serious error in judgment.
